cultural-heritage · 2026-05-18

On May 18, the Galería de las Colecciones Reales in Madrid will offer free admission to celebrate International Museum Day under the theme 'Museums uniting a divided world'. Tickets are available exclusively at the museum box office. The Palacio Real also offers free entry that day, while other Patrimonio Nacional sites remain closed as the holiday falls on a Monday. A special program includes 'Confluencias', short talks by curators and conservators on six key works spanning five centuries, such as the armor of Charles V from Mühlberg, the tapestry 'The Stoning of Saint Stephen', Rogier van der Weyden's 'Calvary', and the 19th-century clock collection from 'La precisión del tiempo'. Visitors can also access the museum's restricted storage areas in two guided tours at 12:00 and 17:00 (max 15 people, reservation required). On May 19, 'Conversaciones en la Galería' with Víctor Cageao (director of the Colecciones Reales) and Marina Chinchilla (deputy director of Administration at the Museo Nacional del Prado) will take place at 18:30 in the museum auditorium, free until full capacity.
