Gal Weinstein to Represent Israel at 2017 Venice Biennale

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Israel has selected Gal Weinstein (born 1970 in Ramat Gan) to represent the country at the 2017 Venice Biennale. Weinstein's recent work, spanning painting, photography, installation, sculpture, and video, explores the physical world and chaos through a scientific lens, using materials like steel and wool as substitutes for drawing. The Israeli Pavilion will be curated by Tami Katz-Friedman, formerly of the Haifa Museum of Art. Both were chosen by a committee from the Visual Arts Department of Israel's Ministry of Culture. Artribune had previously featured Weinstein and invited him to present at Artissima, anticipating his prominence.
