Gajah Gallery Manila Opens with 'Confabulations: A Fantasy of the Real' Exhibition

Gajah Gallery Manila has launched its inaugural exhibition, 'Confabulations: A Fantasy of the Real,' curated by Joyce Toh. This event highlights Southeast Asian perspectives on themes like reality, history, and misinformation. Indonesian artists are well-represented, including Yunizar, whose piece Kepiting Kuning (Yellow Crab) from 2025 explores taste and emotion. Hahan’s work, The Irony of Protester (2021), combines paramilitary aspects with pop culture. Filipino artists like Kawayan de Guia and Mark Justiniani also contribute, with de Guia's November (2025) creating a dialogue between perception and feeling, while Justiniani’s Fluxer (2025) uses a praxinoscope to question reality. Lastly, Kiri Dalena’s works from 2025 challenge historical narratives, restoring dignity to Filipina women. The exhibition emphasizes the intricate nature of reality and shared histories in the region.
