Gaia Sculpture Wins Garden of the Year at RHS Chelsea Flower Show
At the 2026 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, a garden titled "On the Edge" by designer Sarah Eberle won the Garden of the Year award. The centerpiece is a giant sleeping figure of Gaia, or Mother Nature, with willow-branch locks by Tom Hare and a carved face and shoulders from a fallen tree by Tim Wood. A dry stone wall arch by Noble Stonework extends the torso. The garden, a collaboration with the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), highlights "edgelands"—overlooked spaces between rural and urban areas. Eberle used a wild plant aesthetic to emphasize the beauty and ecological value of these areas, encouraging natural materials and support for pollinators. The show runs through May 23 at the Royal Hospital in London, hosted by the Royal Horticultural Society since 1913.
