Gagosian to mount major James Turrell survey 'Lifting the Veil'

exhibition · 2026-05-28

Gagosian will present 'Lifting the Veil', a survey of James Turrell's work opening May 28. The exhibition includes holograms, prints, three Glasswork pieces, site plans, photographs, and models of Skyspaces and Roden Crater. Turrell's Skyspaces are chambers with ceiling apertures open to the sky, blending natural and artificial light. Roden Crater, under construction since 1977, is a large-scale artwork inside a volcanic cinder cone in Northern Arizona's Painted Desert. Turrell has explored light as primary material since the 1960s, starting with projected and natural light installations in his Santa Monica studio.
