Gagosian to exhibit early Rauschenberg works from Twombly collection

On April 25, Gagosian will showcase six early pieces by Robert Rauschenberg, sourced from the Cy Twombly Foundation. This exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of Rauschenberg's birth and coincides with the opening of a Marcel Duchamp exhibit in the gallery's newly established ground-floor area at 980 Madison Avenue. Rauschenberg and Twombly first crossed paths in 1951 at the Art Students League of New York, later attending Black Mountain College in North Carolina. Between 1952 and 1953, they journeyed together through Italy, Morocco, and Spain. The artworks from Twombly's collection represent significant milestones in Rauschenberg's early career, showcasing their profound friendship and artistic collaboration.
