Gagosian mounts posthumous Frank Gehry show of animal sculptures and fish lamps
Gagosian Beverly Hills presents 'Frank Gehry', the first exhibition since the architect's death in 2025 at age 96, focusing on his non-architectural works. Curated by Deborah McLeod, a personal friend, the show features dozens of fish lamps, a bear, snakes, and a nearly 10-foot-long crocodile. Gehry considered the fish a 'perfect form' and drew inspiration from its curves for buildings like the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. The fish lamps, first shown at Gagosian in 1984, use LED bulbs and Formica scales to scatter light. A centerpiece is 'Bear with Us', a 7-ft stainless steel bear inspired by a small award Gehry designed; Larry Gagosian planned two editions of four each in stainless steel and electroplated gold, fabricated on purchase due to cost. The exhibition runs from May 14 to June 27.
