Gagosian Launches Artist Spotlight Online Sales Platform
The Gagosian gallery has introduced Artist Spotlight, an online program aimed at assisting artists whose exhibitions were either postponed or canceled due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Each week, the initiative highlights a different artist, showcasing a single artwork for sale exclusively on gagosian.com for a 48-hour period, along with pricing details. Accompanying each feature are videos, interviews, essays, and curated recommendations for playlists, books, and films. The program began on April 8 with Sarah Sze, and future artists include Stanley Whitney, Jennifer Guidi, Roe Ethridge, and others. Whitney's feature will display works intended for his canceled solo exhibition at Gagosian Rome. Larry Gagosian emphasized the need for a solution that protects artists' work amid market challenges. This initiative follows David Zwirner's Platform, which offers a free online viewing room for 12 emerging galleries in New York.
