Gagosian expands to occupy nearly an entire block in Chelsea, New York

Gagosian Gallery is expanding its footprint on West 24th Street in Chelsea, New York, taking over spaces formerly occupied by Mary Boone Gallery and Pace Gallery. The expansion will add approximately 2,000 square meters to Gagosian's existing locations, consolidating its presence in the art district. Pace Gallery vacated its space ahead of a move to a new eight-story headquarters opening in September, while Mary Boone Gallery closed after its founder was convicted of tax fraud. Gagosian has signed a long-term lease for the adjacent spaces, though specific plans for their use have not been disclosed. The move reinforces Gagosian's dominance in Chelsea, which remains a hub for major galleries including Lisson, Gladstone, Luhring Augustine, Jack Shainman, Matthew Marks, and Metro Pictures. Gagosian currently operates 17 galleries worldwide, with recent developments including a new space in Basel during Art Basel, a collector advisory firm led by Laura Paulson, and a Los Angeles venue with chef Evan Funke.
