Gaetano Pesce's Monumental Sculptures Invade Genoa's Squares

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Genoa hosts a major exhibition dedicated to artist, architect, designer, and sculptor Gaetano Pesce, the first since the pandemic. Titled "Gaetano Pesce. In ricordo di un amico," the show runs until January 9, 2022, at the Museo di Villa Croce. It features iconic works like the Up5&6 armchair, Moloch (1972), and recent pieces such as Pelli (Industrial Skin). The exhibition also commemorates Pesce's late friend Germano Celant, a pivotal figure in contemporary art. Beyond the museum, four monumental sculptures are installed in Genoa's main squares: Maestà tradita at Piazza Fontane Marose, a giant Up di stracci at Piazza De Ferrari, Sedia Portaritratti at Piazza Matteotti, and La Crocefissione della manualità (2020) in the museum park, displayed for the first time. The exhibition is presented by Artribune, which also offers newsletters on art market, urban regeneration, and cultural tourism.
