Gabriella Marcella opens self-designed Risograph studio in Glasgow with flexible Green Room centerpiece

architecture-design · 2026-04-20

Designer Gabriella Marcella has established a new 100-square-metre headquarters for her Risograph printing business, Risotto Studio, within a former industrial unit in Glasgow. The space, which she personally designed, features a central stepped volume called The Green Room that houses paper storage and printers while displaying sculptural works. Fabricator Alexander Garthwaite constructed this Tetris-like structure based on Marcella's SketchUp models. The entire workshop is designed for flexibility, with mobile storage units and tables allowing reconfiguration for various activities like workshops and stationery production. Storage solutions primarily came from British brand Bisley through a collaboration where Marcella created a capsule collection in exchange for products. The material palette includes salvaged terrazzo tiles, an epoxy floor, white walls, and colorful vintage finds. The studio's opening coincided with the Riso Club 100 exhibition at the adjacent Glue Factory Galleries, showcasing 400 postcard designs from the global Riso Club subscription project Marcella founded in 2017. Previously based at the Glue Factory creative hub for 14 years since graduation, Marcella described the new workspace as embodying her studio's ambition and allowing translation of two-dimensional patterns into three-dimensional forms.
