other · 2026-04-24

Gabriele Senn, an influential personality in Vienna's art community, has passed away. She was known for representing both local talents like Marko Lulic, Hans Weigand, and Elfie Semotan, as well as international artists such as Kitty Krauss, Cosima von Bonin, and Josephine Pryde. Senn was a co-founder of the Viennafair (now known as viennacontemporary), initiated the Vienna Gallery Weekend, and held the position of president at the Austrian Gallery Association. After studying painting with Oswald Oberhuber at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, she established Hoffmann & Senn in 1997 and later launched her own gallery on Schleifmühlgasse in 2000. A strong proponent for emerging artists, she often criticized the insufficient support from private collectors and museums in Vienna. Her daughter, Kathi Senn, will take over the gallery's operations.
