Gabriele Basilico's Rome Photography Exhibition at Palazzo Altemps

Palazzo Altemps in Rome will host the exhibition 'Gabriele Basilico. Roma' from December 12, 2024, to February 23, 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of the photographer's birth. The show focuses on Basilico's photographic campaigns in Rome between 1985 and 2011, featuring over 50 images selected from 20 professional assignments. Curated by Matteo Balduzzi and Giovanna Calvenzi, the exhibition is organized in two main sections plus a focus on Basilico's archive, including 60 contact sheets and notes. It explores the dialogue between monuments and ordinary urban fabric, highlighting Basilico's ability to capture Rome's layered history. The exhibition is a collaboration between the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea del Ministero della Cultura, Museo Nazionale Romano, MUFOCO – Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea, and Archivio Basilico. A catalog edited by Angelo Piero Cappello, Giovanna Calvenzi, and Matteo Balduzzi will be published by Electa. This follows a major retrospective in Milan in 2023 and the documentary 'Basilico. L’infinito è là in fondo' directed by Stefano Santamato.
