Gabriela Salgado appointed director of The Showroom London
Gabriela Salgado, a curator originally from Argentina who has resided in Britain since 1995, has been named the new director of The Showroom in London, a role that has been unfilled for almost a year. She takes over from Elvira Dyangani Ose, who departed in July 2023 to assume the position of artistic director at the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona. Salgado's recent role was as artistic director at Te Tuhi Contemporary Art in New Zealand from 2017 to 2020, where she curated works by artists such as Raúl Ortega Ayala, Carlos Cruz-Diez, and Gayle Chong Kwan. Her previous experience includes six years with the Latin American Art Collection at Essex University and a curatorial position at Tate Modern from 2006 to 2011. Additionally, she curated the 2nd Biennale of Thessaloniki in 2009 and La Otra Bienal in Bogotá in 2013. The Showroom, a non-profit gallery nearing its 40th anniversary, emphasizes collaborative and process-oriented practices.
