g.olmo stuppia's Katasterismós explores migration in Venice

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The site-specific exhibition Katasterismós by g.olmo stuppia (born 1991, Milan) is on view at SPUMA Space for the Arts, a former brewery on Giudecca island in Venice, until March 30, 2025. The show centers on the film Sposare la notte Ep.V, a 4K video shot with a Flir camera and edited by Domenico Palmeri and Gerardo Brentari. The project, the artist's second solo exhibition in the lagoon, is described as an elegiac rhapsody and a catasterism (star-generator). It includes fabric and clay sculptures, photographs, and collaborations with other artists. Curated by Giuseppe Amedeo Arnesano, Elena Cera, and Giulia Gelmi, the exhibition aims to immerse viewers in an environment alternating light and darkness, addressing mass emigration from Italy and the Global South through the mythological archetype of travel and island arrival. The work is part of the cycle Sposare la notte, initiated in 2022 within the Public Program of the Italian Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale, curated by Eugenio Viola. After Venice, the show will travel to Paris, Palermo, Milan, and New York. A catalog titled Katasterismós. Una deriva dentro “Sposare la notte” will be published by Postmedia Books (Milan). Admission is free.
