Fuyao Glass bets on automation to dominate global auto glass market
Fuyao Glass Industry Group, holding 35% of the global automotive glass market, has opened a highly automated plant in Hefei, Anhui province, China. The facility, which began construction in 2024 and started production a year later, boasts a 90% automation rate using robotic arms and automated carriers. Chairman Cao Hui recently sat beside Tesla CEO Elon Musk at a US-China state banquet, joining tech elites from Lenovo, Xiaomi, and ByteDance. The company, founded in 1987, supplies General Motors, Ford, and BMW. Vice-president Huang Xianqian stated that the Anhui plant serves as a model for future factories, with lessons to be fed back into existing facilities to boost productivity. Fuyao gained fame from the 2019 Oscar-winning documentary American Factory.
