fuu Oimachi: Tokyo Corporate Dormitory Transformed into Rental Residence
In Tokyo, the fuu Oimachi project by LATIERRA and R/URBAN DESIGN OFFICE has completed a comprehensive renovation of a 35-year-old corporate dormitory into a contemporary rental residence. The 215 m² project, curated by Miwa Negoro and led by architects Tomohiko Amemiya and Kai Iwasaki, reimagines urban housing by balancing personal autonomy with shared living. The design team includes R/URBAN DESIGN OFFICE, with lead team Tokyo Gas Real Estate Co., Ltd. and general contractor eims. Photographs by Kenya Chiba document the transformation, which uses products from ADVAN GROUP Co.,Ltd., BOARD CO.,LTD., Oshima Pros Co.,Ltd., and Sangetsu Corporation. The project proposes a novel housing prototype that offers sophisticated coexistence between the individual and the collective, responding to site-specific conditions without mandating social interaction. Completion year is 2026.
