Future School Transforms Korean Pavilion at Venice Architecture Biennale
The Korean Pavilion at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale has been transformed into Future School, an international incubator of radical thought. Curator Hae-Won Shin invites visitors to participate in unlearning and relearning through events that are recorded and broadcast within the pavilion as a growing installation. The circular, bright space features domestic objects, seating, and screens for streaming and videoconferences with international professionals. Key themes include dialogue, deconstruction, new models, networking, and pedagogy. Italian artists Giuseppe Stampone and Maria Crispal contribute with Global Education, part of Solstizio Project founded in 2008, which has organized activities in 21 countries focusing on the school of the future. Their collaboration with Korea began in 2019 when Stampone participated in the Seoul Architecture Biennale. At Venice, they will organize four workshops for all ages, where participants imagine the future home by drawing on blank grids of Abecedari. The pavilion is conceived as a meta-participatory project that progressively modifies itself through these experiences.
