Future Generation Art Prize 2012 Awarded in Kiev

award · 2026-04-23

The second edition of the Future Generation Art Prize, organized by the Pinchuk Art Centre in Kiev, awarded its main prize to British painter Lynette Yiadom-Boakye. Five special prizes went to Micol Assaël, Rayyane Tabet, Jonathas de Andrade, Marwa Arsanios, and Ahmet Ögüt. The prize exhibition, curated by Björn Geldhof, featured 21 young artists, all of whom produced new works and will show at a palazzo in Venice during the Biennale. The jury included Massimiliano Gioni, Hans-Ulrich Obrist, Eckhard Schneider, and Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev. The award ceremony took place in a 1970s planetarium, hosted by Tim Marlow. Viktor Pinchuk, the founder, also supports a separate prize for Ukrainian artists; last year's winner Mykyta Kadan presented a monument to Soviet workers. The centre, designed by Philippe Chiambaretta, includes a vegetarian café. A new building is planned, with an architect yet to be announced, but Pinchuk's interest in Japanese culture is noted.
