Future Fair launches in New York with cooperative profit-sharing model for galleries
Future Fair, a new contemporary art fair founded by Rachel Mijares Fick and Rebeca Laliberte, will debut from May 7 to 9, 2020, at Canoe Studios in New York, coinciding with Frieze New York. The fair limits participation to 36 carefully selected galleries, prioritizing quality over quantity. Its key innovation is a cooperative business model: participating galleries become shareholders and share 35% of total profits over the first five years. Booth costs range from $6,500 to $10,900 depending on room size. Founding Galleries can receive returns as cash, credit for future fairs, or as a "Pay It Forward" option to sponsor emerging galleries. The fair aims to address the unsustainable costs of traditional art fairs and support mid-sized and smaller galleries. Selected gallery names will be announced by end of 2019.
