Future Digs: Dialogues on Democracy, Migration, and Artificialization in Matera 2019

Future Digs, an initiative within the Matera 2019 European Capital of Culture program, aims to generate reflections and dialogues on contemporary and future culture. Supported by Giuseppe Laterza & Figli SpA and Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, the project organizes lessons around themes of democracy, migration, and artificialization. The first phase included the 'Lezioni di Storia. Oltre i confini' cycle in collaboration with Laterza, featuring historians Alessandro Barbero, Franco Farinelli, Franco Cardini, Simona Colarizi, and Alessandro Portelli discussing the concept of borders. The 'People have the power' cycle took place in Milan and Brussels with Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, focusing on active citizenship and grassroots participation. The second phase runs from November 14 to 16, featuring the Reds conference, an international network of designers, where selected scholars will discuss the theme of legacy. Architects Alfredo Brillembourg, Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo, Paolo Portoghesi, and Philippe Vassal will also participate. The project also includes Matera-focused content co-produced with Rai Radio 3.
