Fuocherello: New Sculpture Gallery Opens Inside Foundry Near Turin
A new contemporary art gallery, Fuocherello, has been operating for a year inside the Fonderia artistica de Carli foundry in Volvera, about 20 minutes from Turin. The gallery focuses on sculpture and aims to organize five exhibitions per year in Volvera, plus two or three at its satellite locations in Romainmôtier-Envy and Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and East Hampton, New York. It also plans residencies and partnerships to give artists access to casting techniques. The upcoming exhibition opens May 5, featuring works by Bekhbaatar Enkhtur, Giulia Poppi, and Lorenzo Lunghi, with a text by Gabriele Tosi. The gallery was founded by artistic director Miral Rivalta, Swiss lawyer and entrepreneur Philippe Jacopin, and Manlio Bonetto, co-owner of Fonderia de Carli with Piero de Carli and Andrea Toloardo. The name Fuocherello comes from a 2021 exhibition by Bekhbaatar Enkhtur inside the foundry. The gallery originated from a 2018 public sculpture exhibition in Neuchâtel by Davide Rivalta, which led to a crowdfunding campaign to keep the works permanently. Rivalta, who studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna and sculpture, emphasizes the synergy between creation, exhibition, and sales. The gallery provides technical support and access to materials for emerging and established artists. Future goals include participating in art fairs.
