Fundación la Caixa Opens 2026 Production Grant for Spanish and Portuguese Artists

Fundación la Caixa has launched its biennial grant program 'Apoyo a la Creación'26. Producción,' offering financial and advisory support for contemporary art production. The initiative, which began in 2018, aims to become a reference program in Spain and Portugal. Artists or collectives must be Spanish or Portuguese nationals or residents, over 18, with at least three prior exhibitions. Applications require a commitment from a non-profit agent to exhibit the resulting work. The selection process involves two phases: initial shortlisting based on project proposal, budget, artist trajectory, and external agent involvement, followed by a final round where finalists present detailed production plans and defend them orally before a jury. Selected artists receive funding divided into artist fees and production costs, with first-phase finalists receiving €1,000 (€2,000 for collectives) to develop their second-phase proposals. The program provides ongoing mentorship and aims to build a network among participants, jurors, and cultural agents. All produced works are reviewed by the advisory committee of the Fundación la Caixa's Contemporary Art Collection for potential acquisition. Applications must be submitted via the foundation's online portal by May 20, 2026, at 17:00. The program requires artists to acknowledge the foundation's support throughout the work's lifetime and participate in related activities if requested.
