Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí publishes online catalogue raisonné after 17 years of research
After 17 years of research, the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí has published the online catalogue raisonné of Salvador Dalí (1904–1989). The project began in 2004, the centenary of Dalí's birth, and was completed in 2017. Directed by Montse Aguer, director of the Dalí Museums and the Centre for Dalinian Studies (CED), with the consultancy of Antoni Pitxot, director of the Dalí Museums until 2015, the work was divided among teams covering five chronological periods: up to 1929, 1930–1939, 1940–1951, 1952–1964, and 1965–1983. Basic information came from the Fundació's archive, supplemented by materials from the Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida; the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid; the Centre Pompidou in Paris; the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam; and international auction houses Sotheby's, Christie's, and Bonhams. The Conservation and Restoration department of the Reina Sofía and the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona also contributed. Works of doubtful attribution were excluded pending further study. This follows the March 5 launch of the first part of Edgar Degas's online catalogue raisonné by Michel Schulman, updating Paul-André Lemoisne's 1946 catalog of 1,450 works, with a second part of over 2,000 works expected by 2020.
