Fulvio Roiter tribute with his Venice photos at Biennale Gardens

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

A tribute to Venetian photographer Fulvio Roiter, who died four years ago, will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 9:00 PM at the Arena Giardini della Biennale in Venice. The event, organized in collaboration with the Fondazione Fulvio Roiter and the Comune di Venezia, will feature a film showcasing some of Roiter's most famous black-and-white and color photographs of Venice, to which he dedicated a long series of iconic shots. The screening precedes the projection of John Huston's restored classic film "Fat City" (1971) as part of the "Classici fuori Mostra" series. Jessica Roiter, the photographer's daughter and President of the Fondazione Fulvio Roiter, explained that she created the video as a "firework" and "hymn to the splendor of Venice" to counter the common image of the city associated with high water or tourist crowds. She emphasized the combination of images and soundtrack to create an emotional experience highlighting the harmony between stone and water that defines the true Venice.
