Fulvio Roiter's Poetic Umbria in Snow at Perugia's Galleria Nazionale

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria in Perugia inaugurates Camera Oscura, a new space dedicated to contemporary photography, with an exhibition of 27 black-and-white photographs by Fulvio Roiter (1926–2016). The show focuses on his images of Umbria under snow, taken in the mid-1950s after he received a telegram about an exceptional snowfall. Roiter, a Venetian photographer, captured rural life, Franciscan itineraries, and the Trasimeno lake, featuring towns like Gubbio, Spello, Norcia, and Assisi. The works were part of the book "I fioretti di san Francesco" published by the Swiss house Guilde du Livre. The exhibition is curated by director Costantino D'Orazio and runs in a black cube installed in Sala XVII, surrounded by Renaissance paintings by Fiorenzo di Lorenzo, creating an inter-temporal dialogue.
