Fulco Pratesi's Illustrations on View at Rome's Chamber of Deputies
A year after his death on March 1, 2025, at age 90, the Chamber of Deputies in Rome honors Fulco Pratesi with the exhibition 'L’Arte della Natura, dipinti e taccuini di Fulco Pratesi.' Pratesi, who founded WWF Italy in 1966 and served as its president, was also an architect, journalist, and illustrator. The show, opening March 3 and running through March 12, displays his naturalistic diaries, watercolors, and plates from 'L’Orsa,' a magazine he founded in 1978. Curated by Francesco Petretti, Francesco Pratesi, and Alessandra Fenizi, with support from Giorgio Mulè, Italia Nostra, and WWF Italy, the exhibition features works from Pratesi's family collection, including 28 sketchbooks and diaries produced from the 1980s onward. Themes include marshes, sea, clandestine animals in cities, and WWF campaigns for the Sardinian deer, wolf, and 'bad' animals. Two display cases cover his parliamentary term (1992–1994) and key life events: meeting his wife Fabrizia de Ferrariis Salzano in 1951 and a 1966 bear encounter in Turkey that turned him into a conservationist. Entry requires ID and a jacket for men.
