Fuksas designs sculptural villas in Sardinia's Is Molas resort

Architect Massimiliano Fuksas and his wife Doriana Fuksas have designed a series of luxury villas called 'Sculture da abitare' (Sculptures to Live In) at the Is Molas Resort in Sardinia, Italy. The project covers approximately 500 hectares in a pristine coastal area near Pula, not far from Cagliari. The villas are inspired by Mediterranean and Moroccan aesthetics, with colors and forms reminiscent of Ouarzazate and Ait-Ben-Haddou, as well as Sardinian nuragic architecture. Materials include local stone, wood, and cocciopesto, a Roman-era material, with Tadelakt plaster finishes. The interiors, curated by Doriana Fuksas, feature warm hues that interact with natural light. The villas range from 200 to 500 square meters across four typologies and six variants, each with a private garden and customizable pool. Named in Sardinian—Palas (purple cloth), Luxi (light), Nea (dawn), and Arenada (pomegranate)—they emphasize sustainability with energy-saving systems and water reuse. The resort also offers a golf course, bike park with 30 trails, and access to nearby beaches like Su Giudeu and Chia. The project aims to blend architecture with the natural landscape, respecting local traditions and bio-architecture principles.
