Fujifilm Warns Memory Crisis Will Raise Camera Prices

economy-finance · 2026-08-10

Fujifilm has revised its cost projections for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, citing increased memory prices. The company now expects to spend an additional 14 billion yen (nearly $88 million) on memory costs, with the Imaging division absorbing eight billion yen (just over $50 million) of that increase. This revision follows a previous forecast released on May 12, 2026. Despite the higher costs, Fujifilm's operating income projection remains unchanged at 365 billion yen ($2.29 billion) across all segments, with the Imaging division expected to contribute 162 billion yen, the highest of any segment. To mitigate the impact, Fujifilm plans to implement "pricing measures" and procure alternative materials and components. Fujifilm Germany has already announced price increases of 5.3 to 11.1 percent on cameras, up to 500 euros. Other camera manufacturers are also feeling the pressure: Canon cited higher memory costs in its latest results, Nikon reported flat operating profit due to higher memory prices, and Sony noted the impact on its Imaging and Displays businesses. The memory shortage, driven largely by AI data centers, is expected to affect all camera companies, potentially delaying new camera releases and harming entry-level and mid-range models. Photographers, already weary from tariff-induced price hikes last year, face further increases.
