Frutta Gallery relocates to Trastevere with new 85sqm space
Frutta Gallery, directed by James Gardner, is moving from Via Giovanni Pascoli in Colle Oppio to Via dei Salumi 53 in Trastevere, Rome, joining heavyweight galleries T293 and Gavin Brown. The new 85-square-meter, single-room space on the ground floor features high ceilings and was formerly a garage or workshop. Architect Massimo Adario of the omonimo studio, who previously designed the Musei Capitolini cafeteria, led the renovation, preserving the original envelope, 1970s laminate flooring and doors, and adding a vertical drywall box-within-a-box. The gallery opens on September 30 with a solo show by Marco Giordano, an Italian artist based in Glasgow, titled "asnatureintended" running through November 5. Gardner intends for artists to dynamically engage with the architecture and surroundings.
