Frontignano Art Walks: Contemporary Art Revives Earthquake-Hit Italian Village

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Frontignano Art Walks, a new art itinerary, opens in Frontignano, the highest hamlet of Ussita in the province of Macerata, located in the heart of the Sibillini Mountains National Park. The area was heavily damaged by the 2016 earthquakes, which decimated winter tourism. The project, curated by Sineglossa and coordinated by C.A.S.A. – Cosa Accade Se Abitiamo, features four architectural-art installations by the Roman collective orizzontale: two fixed and two mobile, created through workshops with the local community since April. Works include Acqua Friddula, iron and wood seating overlooking Val di Bove, and Fontanile, an installation fostering cohabitation with forest animals. The inauguration on October 15 includes a poetic intervention by Renata Morresi, a performance by Effetto Larsen, and a viewing of Aerocene solar sculptures. Federico Bomba, artistic director of Sineglossa, stated the project aims to rethink mountain living authentically after the seismic events.
