At the World Robot Conference (WRC) on Wednesday, humanoid robots captivated attendees with their table tennis and drumming skills. Despite the impressive displays, industry leaders and investors acknowledged a shift away from viral performances as China's robotics sector pivots towards practical applications. Xu Xiaolan, the president of the Chinese Institute of Electronics, remarked that the industry is at a 'critical juncture,' stressing the importance of real-world uses in areas such as public services, logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, and emergency response. Morgan Stanley pointed out that robots must deliver 'reliability, autonomy, and economic value' instead of merely showcasing their abilities. The WRC highlighted the difficulty of demonstrating that humanoid robots can function effectively in real-world settings.
