From the City: A Plus A Gallery Curatorial Course Spreads Across Venice During Architecture Biennale Preview

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The 23rd edition of the curatorial course at A Plus A Gallery in Venice, titled "From the City," will take place from May 25 to 31, 2016, transforming the urban area between the Sestieri San Marco and Castello into a site for artistic and curatorial research. This project coincides with the press preview days of the 15th International Architecture Biennale. Unlike the previous edition's indoor flea market, this year students will engage directly with the city, creating a dialogue between artists and the lagoon environment. Participating artists include Kensuke Koike (Japan), who will use a Venetian door peephole to reveal a kaleidoscopic world; Jan Vormann (Germany), returning with his Dispatchwork project to repair cracks in city walls using Lego bricks; and Daniele Nicolosi, known as Bros, presenting a site-specific work using one-euro coins to explore the relationship between art and the urban context. The School of Curatorial Studies Venice will act as a research vehicle and experimental laboratory, fostering reflection on the tension between art and the city. Throughout the event, a public interaction platform will host debates and meetings with experts in urbanism, sociology, economics, philosophy, and art, alongside local craftsmen, professionals, and Venetian citizens. The outcomes will be published in a catalog with critical texts, reproductions, and artist biographies. Real-time updates will be available on the dedicated website.
