Froiid's 'Mundaréu' Solo Exhibition Opens at Galeria Albuquerque Contemporânea in Belo Horizonte
The multidisciplinary artist Froiid presents his first solo exhibition, 'Mundaréu,' at Galeria Albuquerque Contemporânea in Belo Horizonte. The show, on view until April 27, 2024, establishes a dialogue with the writer, actor, journalist, and playwright Plínio Marcos (1935-1999) and his 1973 work 'Histórias das Quebradas do Mundaréu.' Froiid constructs a visual, sonic, and sensory narrative exploring themes like crime, samba, RAP, football, organized fan groups, artificial intelligences, and violence. The exhibition is conceived as a game, featuring playable works, including the 13-meter billiard table installation 'É Hora da Onça Beber Água' (2020), which invites the public to create and play with their own rules. Curator Ana Salazar Herrera notes that Froiid's 'living room,' marked by its identitarian character, unfolds free time and calls for closer human connection to preserve physical social networks and appreciate the depth of popular knowledge. The artist's production employs a diversity of materials and techniques, including paintings, photographs, drawings, videos, and sound installations that explore Brazil's cultural richness. The gallery is located at Rua Antônio de Albuquerque, 885 – Savassi, Belo Horizonte (MG), and operates Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 7 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 1:30 PM.
