Frieze Seoul to Relocate to Zaha Hadid's Dongdaemun Design Plaza in 2027

festival-fair · 2026-08-14

For its 2027 edition, Frieze Seoul will move to the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) because of the redevelopment of COEX. Opened in 2014 and designed by Zaha Hadid, DDP is situated about a mile across the Han River from Frieze House Seoul and houses Korea's only public design museum along with a history museum. This year, from September 1-6, DDP will host Design Miami. Frieze noted that the exhibition spaces at DDP will allow for a more focused layout for the fair. Meanwhile, Kiaf Seoul will continue at COEX, offering joint ticket options. Sunghoon Lee, president of the Galleries Association of Korea, endorsed Frieze's relocation. COEX, which opened in 1979, is undergoing redevelopment by Heatherwick Studios, projected for completion in 2029.
