Frieze New York 2018 to Feature Hudson Section Honoring Legendary Gallerist
Frieze New York introduces a new section, Hudson Feature, at its 2018 edition (May 3–6, Randall's Island Park). Curated by Matthew Higgs, the section celebrates Hudson (1950–2014), a former dancer and performance artist who became a renowned gallerist. Hudson founded Feature Inc in Chicago in 1984 with a Richard Prince show, moving to New York in 1988. The gallery launched artists like Charles Ray, Raymond Pettibon, Tom Friedman, Takashi Murakami, and Vincent Fecteau. The section's exhibition, 'For Your Infotainment: Hudson and Feature Inc', features works by Dike Blair, Tom of Finland, Jason Fox, Daniel Hesidence, Tom Friedman, Andrew Masullo, Raymond Pettibon, Takashi Murakami, and Tony Tasset. The non-profit Feature Hudson Foundation (FHF) will also be presented, aiming to preserve Hudson's legacy and support young artists. Frieze New York faces competition from the Armory Show, Art Basel Miami Beach, and San Francisco fairs, and a declining visitor count due to its peripheral location. The fair is diversifying its format, recently opening to art dealers without physical spaces.
