Frieze London and Frieze Masters Cancel 2020 Editions, Announce Online Viewing Room

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Frieze London and Frieze Masters, two of the world's most significant art fairs, have canceled their 2020 editions due to the coronavirus pandemic. The events, which typically occur simultaneously each October in London's Regent's Park, will not return in person until 2021. Instead, Frieze announced it will host an online edition of Frieze Viewing Room in October, celebrating Frieze Week around London. This follows the precedent set by Frieze New York, which held a virtual fair in April 2020 with 200 galleries from various countries, replacing its physical event. The 2019 London edition featured approximately 160 galleries, including some of the world's largest. The online initiative aims to maintain engagement during a week when London galleries and cultural institutions traditionally prepare for increased visitors and collectors.
