Frieze London 2024 Showcases Global Art Amid Regional Tensions

festival-fair · 2026-04-22

Frieze London 2024 has returned to Regent's Park with a redesigned layout, running until October 13. The fair features numerous international galleries, including the Artist-to-Artist section curated by leading artists. Selma Feriani's booth presents delicate pencil drawings by Massinissa Selmani, selected by Zineb Sedira. ATHR gallery from Saudi Arabia displays works by Nasser Alsalem, Dana Awartani, and Ayman Yosri Dayban, offering a serious counterpoint to more colorful figurative works elsewhere. Marfa' Projects from Beirut, operating with its physical space closed due to bombardment in Lebanon, presents Stéphanie Saadé's Geographical Coordinates (2023), referencing the 2020 port explosions. Sfeir-Semler gallery, also with a closed Beirut location, shows Samia Halaby's vibrant abstract painting Order Disorder Surprising Event (2024) alongside Aref El Rayes's 1978 war depictions. Palestinian artist Taysir Batniji's Travelling Window (1999) creates an understated poignant moment. An installation of inflatable penguins at a Danish gallery provides lighter entertainment. The Focus section highlights emerging talent from younger galleries. Amid growing censorship concerns, the fair provides space for artists from Lebanon and Palestine to address current conflicts.
