Frieze London 2019 Sets Record with 160 Galleries and New Woven Section
Frieze London 2019, scheduled for October 3–6 at Regent's Park, will host a record 160 galleries from 36 countries, including newcomers from Southeast Asia and Latin America. The fair introduces a new section called Woven, curated by Cosmin Costinas, featuring eight solo shows by international artists working with textiles, weaving, and tapestry. Woven addresses colonial legacies and economic circuits around fabric trade. A new Gallery Committee, composed of Stefan Benchoam, Edouard Malingue, and Angelina Volk, will award emerging artists in the Focus section. Returning world-class galleries include Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace Gallery, and David Zwirner. Italian gallery Gió Marconi from Milan is among the new participants. Frieze Masters and Frieze Sculpture run concurrently, with Sculpture starting July 3. Director Victoria Siddall emphasized the fair's international spirit, welcoming first-time galleries from Brazil, Lebanon, Estonia, and Taiwan.
