Frieze London 2018: 9 Must-See Stands at the Fair

The 2018 edition of Frieze London, held in Regent's Park, opened with a subdued atmosphere, lacking the usual glamour and energy. The fair felt flat, with dealers more focused on costs than experimentation, though quality proposals remained. The adjacent Frieze Masters section seemed to draw more attention and magic. Among the highlights, Gagosian presented restrained new works by Urs Fischer. Simon Lee's stand featured Jim Shaw's works. The Athens gallery The Breeder showed pastel-toned works by Ariana Papademetropoulos, Mathilde Rosier, and sculptures by Andreas Angelidakis and Zoe Paul. Maisterravalbuena displayed Antonio Ballester Moreno's geometric paintings and Silvia Bachli's watercolors. Stephen Friedman's stand included Martin Creed's metal sculpture, works by Giorgio Griffa and Tracey Emin, plus David Shrigley's neon and video pieces. White Cube showed Liu Wei's sculptures and paintings in a labyrinthine metal cage. Victoria Miro presented new paintings by Eddie Martinez. Kurimanzutto featured works by Damián Ortega, Gabriel Orozco, Sarah Lucas, and Abraham Cruzvillegas.
