Frieze Focus New York 2024: Artists Share Soundtrack Inspirations

For the 2024 Frieze New York Focus section, curator Lumi Tan selected 11 galleries for solo presentations, emphasizing heterodox international perspectives. The section, supported by Stone Island, allows younger galleries to take risks with complex installations. Artists were asked to share songs inspiring their work, resulting in a diverse mix. Campeche (Mexico City) presents Abraham González Pacheco, whose drawings and concrete works use colonial Mexican pigments; his song is 'Mexica' by Los Cogelones. EUROPA (first-time) shows Aki Goto's video on dental chairs, soundtracked by her own music. Champ LaCombe (Biarritz) features Antoni Miralda's 1984–86 works and 'The Honeymoon Project', with his song 'Angelitos Negros' by Antonio Machín. Isla Flotante (Buenos Aires, first-time) presents Rosario Zorraquín's symbol-based works; her song is 'Ojos de Video Tape' by Charly García. Sargent's Daughters (New York) shows Yeni Mao's sculptural installations; his song is 'Zombie' by Fela Kuti. Public (London) presents Reika Takebayashi's paintings and ceramics inspired by Finnish post-glacial terrain; her song is 'The Grey Funnel Line' by Silly Sisters.
