Friend to a Friend: Warsaw Gets Its Own Condo-Style Art Fair
The Condo format, pioneered by Vanessa Carlos in London in 2016, continues to spawn clones globally. The latest iteration, Friend to a Friend, launches in Warsaw until April 28. Eight leading local galleries host fourteen international counterparts from Berlin, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, New York, Paris, Prague, Vienna, The Hague, and Zurich. Participating galleries include ChertLüdde, Jan Kaps, Lucas Hirsch, Neue Alte Brücke, Union Pacific, Reserve Ames, Future, Lomex, Crevecoeur, Antoine Levi, Hunt Kastner, SVIT, Ermes-Ermes, and Durst Britt & Mayhew. The project is run by galleries Stereo and Wschód, organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute with the Warsaw Cultural Department and Frieze magazine. Meanwhile, in Glendale, Los Angeles, five Latin American galleries—Galeria Agustina Ferreyra, Lodos, Proyectos Ultravioleta, Carne, and BWSMX—have formed a cooperative called Ruberta, sharing a space next to the Pit to reduce costs and expand their reach. The initiative was spearheaded by Brett W. Schultz, co-founder of Yautepec gallery and Creative Director of Material Art Fair.
