Frida Kahlo's wardrobe showcased at London's V&A Museum

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London will host a major exhibition dedicated to Frida Kahlo's wardrobe and personal belongings, opening June 16 and running until November 4, 2018. This marks the first time these items have left Mexico. The exhibition will feature her traditional Tehuana dresses, hand-painted corsets, orthopedic devices, jewelry, photographs, and letters. These effects were sealed by her husband Diego Rivera in a bathroom of the Casa Azul after her death in 1954 and rediscovered in 2004. The show aims to offer insight into her private life and painting, juxtaposing garments with works like "My Dress Hangs There" (1933) and "The Love Embrace of the Universe" (1943). Concurrently, Milan's MUDEC will present "Oltre il mito" starting February 1, 2018, featuring works never before seen in Italy.
