Freya Tewelde's 'Geometry of Elsewhere' Opens at Gallery 1957 During London Gallery Weekend 2026
Gallery 1957 London is set to unveil 'Geometry of Elsewhere', a solo showcase featuring new works by Freya Tewelde, a London-based artist. This exhibition, which opens on 5 June 2026 during London Gallery Weekend, marks Tewelde's debut solo show with the gallery following her representation announcement in February. Tewelde, originally from Asmara, Eritrea, and raised in Saudi Arabia, delves into themes of diaspora and cultural legacy through her layered abstract pieces, employing powder pigment, oil stick, and acrylic on canvas. The works embody the concept of 'in-betweenness', reflecting emotional states tied to memory and ancestry. An Eritrean music activation will enhance the opening. The exhibition will be on display until 25 July 2026. Additionally, Gallery 1957 will celebrate its tenth anniversary with Accra Cultural Week from 29 October to 2 November 2026 in Ghana.
