Frestas Triennial Consolidates as a Leading Art Event

Frestas, the art triennial hosted by Sesc in Sorocaba, takes place in a garage, selected for its spacious height and relevance to the theme 'Between Post-Truths and Events.' Curator Daniela Labra delves into the concept of post-truth, which was named Oxford's word of the year in 2016, through various artistic expressions. Notable pieces include Matheus Rocha Pitta's 'O ano da mentira, 2017' and jewelry created from the belongings of murder victims by Teresa Margolles, emphasizing political narratives. More than half of the 60 exhibited works are new commissions. Local history is represented in Reyner Leiva Novo's toothbrush panel and Maria Thereza Alves's urns. Murals by Nunca and Panmela Castro tackle issues of indigenous rights and women's empowerment, expanding the reach of contemporary radical art.
