French DJ Kavinsky Dies at 50 in Paris

Vincent Belorgey, known as Kavinsky, the French electronic musician famous for the track "Nightcall," was found dead in his Paris apartment on Tuesday evening at age 50. The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the cause of death, stating no suspicious elements were found at the scene. Kavinsky rose to international fame in 2011 when "Nightcall" was used in the opening credits of Nicolas Winding Refn's film "Drive." The track was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk and was performed live at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics at the Stade de France alongside Belgian singer Angèle and French pop-rock band Phoenix. Kavinsky first gained recognition in Parisian clubs in the early 2000s, where he met DJs Jackson Fourgeaud and Quentin Dupieux, who helped him secure early gigs. In 2007, he composed the score for Dupieux's debut film "Steak" and released early EPs, notably "1986," whose track "Testarossa Autodrive" appeared in the video games Grand Theft Auto IV and Gran Turismo 5. His debut studio album "OutRun" (2013) included "Nightcall" and the single "Odd Look," used in a BMW advertisement. After a nine-year hiatus, his second and final album "Reborn" was released in 2022 to favorable critical reception but modest commercial success.
