French designer and Campeggi unveil foldout guest room in a box at Salone del Mobile 2026

architecture-design · 2026-05-27

During the Salone del Mobile 2026 at Rho Fiera, French designer Thélonious Goupil collaborated with Italian furniture brand Campeggi to unveil 'Bienvenue', a compact wooden box that transforms into a fully equipped guest room. This closed unit, crafted from stained and varnished birch plywood, can double as a stool or a step. It includes a bean-shaped handle for convenient lifting; sliding a panel reveals a foldable headboard and a Lycra-covered mattress that inflates with an electric pump, accompanied by a privacy screen. The idea emerged from a discussion between Goupil and Guglielmo Campeggi at Milan's Small Small Space gallery, where Goupil showcased his 'Paysage Industriel' lamp series. Goupil, an Ensci-Les Ateliers graduate with experience at Ransmeier and Jasper Morrison, co-directs Collections Typologie, which explores everyday objects. Campeggi focuses on convertible furniture, and 'Bienvenue' exemplifies a blend of hospitality and innovative design for compact living environments.
