French artist Abraham Poincheval lives in floating bottle during Paris Olympics
French performance artist Abraham Poincheval is living inside a giant floating bottle on the Canal Saint-Denis, just outside the Olympic Stadium, for ten days and nights during the Paris Olympics. The performance, titled La Bouteille, began on July 25 and ends August 3. The transparent bottle measures nearly six meters by two meters and is equipped with food, drinks, a first aid kit, a compost toilet, a small wind turbine, and solar panels for light and ventilation. Poincheval aims to explore privacy and public space in an era of constant surveillance and social media. This is not his first such feat: between 2015 and 2017 he traveled from Lyon to Switzerland in a similar bottle. His past performances include spending 13 days inside a stuffed bear at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in 2014, a week on a 20-meter platform in front of Gare de Lyon in 2016, seven days inside a carved rock at Palais de Tokyo in 2017, marching over 100 kilometers in heavy armor in 2018, and staring at a painting by Hans Hartung for seven days in 2021. His work Walk on Clouds (2019) is currently on view at Fondation Louis Vuitton.
