Freespace: Farrell and McNamara Reveal Participants for 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale
Due to inclement weather, Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, the curators of the 16th International Architecture Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia, utilized Skype to announce the participants and themes of Freespace from Dublin. The exhibition showcases 71 architects who adhere to the Freespace manifesto, which highlights the concepts of generosity and treating 'Earth as client.' Among the prominent architects are Cino Zucchi, Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo, Benedetta Tagliabue, Alejandro Aravena, Kazuyo Sejima, David Chipperfield, Odile Decq, Jeanne Gang, Toyo Ito, and others. It also includes two special sections: 'Close Encounter' and 'The practice of teaching.' A total of 65 national participations are confirmed, with newcomers from Antigua & Barbuda, Saudi Arabia, Guatemala, Lebanon, Mongolia, and Pakistan. The Italian pavilion is managed by Mario Cucinella.
