Free video game inspired by M.C. Escher's impossible worlds released

digital · 2026-04-27

French developer Antoine Zanuttini has released 'Fragments of Euclid', a free video game inspired by the optical illusions and impossible geometries of Dutch artist M.C. Escher. The game, which lasts about 45 minutes and allows progress saving, is available for Windows, iOS, and Linux. Players navigate non-Euclidean spatial structures and solve puzzles in black-and-white environments that echo Escher's iconic style. The project follows earlier Escher-influenced games such as Monument Valley (2013) by Ustwo, Manifold Garden by William Chyr, and Back to Bed (2015), which also incorporated surrealist references to Dalí and Magritte.
